Southwest Virginia Tour
May 6-9, 2015
Over the course of the last ten years, Southwest Virginia has initiated an unprecedented effort to build Southwest VA’s creative economy through local and state partnerships. By capitalizing on the unique qualities of the region, Southwest Virginia utilizes its cultural and natural assets to build a comprehensive, long-term, sustainable economy through organizations like Heartwood: Southwest Virginia’s Artisan Gateway, The Crooked Road, ‘Round The Mountain and related cultural heritage organizations and venues that promote entrepreneurial and employment opportunities.
The primary purpose of this trip was for community leaders in West Virginia to experience the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the development of the creative economy and asset based economic development in SW VA with a particular emphasis on traditional music, the arts, outdoor recreation, downtown revitalization, and small business development and to meet community leaders that helped to make it happen.
